Emma Raducanu advanced to round three in three out of four Grand Slams this year.

Britain's Emma Raducanu has pulled out of the last two tournaments in 2025 because of the illness she has been battling in recent days.

The 22-year-old was due to play in events in Asia but chose to travel back to regain her health ahead of launching next year's training.

Her upcoming training are set to feature trainer Francisco Roig, as they have decided to continue collaborating for the upcoming season.

Raducanu required blood pressure checks during her first-round match against Ann Li in the Wuhan tournament and retired when losing 6-1 4-1 on a day with extreme humidity.

Another medical visit was necessary a visit from the doctor at the Ningbo Open this week, where she lost in three sets to local wildcard Zhu Lin in the opening round.

She was also playing with clear difficulty in the final set versus Zhu because of the lower back problem that has been a concern at times this year.

These outcomes meant an encouraging season, in which Raducanu rose into the top 30 globally after a long gap since her previous ranking, ended with three successive defeats.

The athlete was close to victory with three match points before losing to Pegula in the third round in last month's Beijing event.

The player achieved 28 matches this year and made it to the semi-final round in Washington, but her standout performance was at the Miami event in March.

As Britain's top player made the last eight of a premier WTA event, defeating eighth seed Emma Navarro en route prior to a loss in a three-set match to the world number four Pegula.

She worked with Mark Petchey as coach between Miami and Wimbledon, with Francisco Roig stepping in for the US Open.

The original arrangement with the former trainer of Nadal was until the end of the season but they will keep working together, with planned training sessions for the end of the year.

She mentioned that her three-day trial alongside Roig after Wimbledon was like a "covert operation" as they aimed to maintain secrecy.

She nearly succeeded to defeating top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka at their initial event as a team in Cincinnati in August.

Roig joined her in New York, where she made the third stage before being beaten by Rybakina, champion at Wimbledon in 2022.
