Ex- BBC Specialists Participate in MPs' Inquiry After Assertions of Prejudice in Leaked Memo
We begin with questions from Conservative MP Caroline Dinenage, who chairs the panel.
She initiates by providing details to the unauthorized memorandum written by Michael Prescott and released in the Telegraph.
"It is not my wish for the British Broadcasting Corporation tilting in any particular direction, I simply desire it balanced, impartial and equitable," he declares.
In response to a query if he considers the British Broadcasting Corporation is institutionally biased, he answers: "Absolutely not. Let's be clear, a great deal the British Broadcasting Corporation produces is top-tier - encompassing factual and fictional content."
But he adds: "There remains significant effort that needs to be done at the British Broadcasting Corporation."
A further ex-adviser BBC specialist interviewed by the committee, Caroline Daniel, remarks she takes the BBC extremely earnestly and that it has a "persistent practice and vigorous discourse" across evolving and intricate topics.
"Was the BBC prepared to have a genuine dialogue and debate and act accordingly?" she questions. "As I see it, affirmative, they were."
