The deceased of a mother aged 34 and her 10-year-old daughter have been located inside freezing appliances in an flat in the western part of Austria.

The deceased, a woman from Syria and her child, who had been unaccounted for for a number of months, were detected on the end of last week. The freezers were concealed behind a false wall in the dwelling, situated in the Innsbruck area.

Two men, a Austrian man, 55 and his brother aged 53, were taken into custody in the month of June. The elder brother, a work associate of the female victim, stated to authorities last week that there had been an incident—but rejected intentional killing.

Speaking to the media previously, a representative for the state prosecutor announced the brothers were being detained on "strong suspicion of homicide".

Personal details of those concerned have not been released by police, in compliance with Austrian law.

Their going missing was first reported by the cousin of the mother, who is based in Germany, on the 25th of July last year.

Police revealed the woman's colleague claimed at the time she had embarked on an prolonged visit with her daughter to visit her parents in Turkey.

The mother's debit card was then discovered to be utilized overseas repeatedly.

But when officers examined the mother's apartment, her mobile phone was found.

An individual also claimed hearing a commotion in the apartment, and screams of "mother" on the day the two were presumed to have gone missing.

A wider official inquiry was initiated, with officers uncovering various messages sent from the woman's phone—among them a notice of quitting to her company and communications to the male associate.

Authorities stated a amount in the thousands was also transferred to the individual.

A senior police official told media representatives on that day that a storage facility had been leased before the victims' disappearance and a freezer had been placed there.

The brothers removed the cooling unit from the facility on the date the victims vanished, she revealed. And a shortly afterward, they obtained a second unit.

Authorities state they consider this indicates the deaths were premeditated.

"The reason for their demise remains unclear due to the condition of the bodies," Tersch commented.

Mayr—from the legal authorities—stated the exact sequence of events is not yet known, but the remains were expertly concealed and were not found during a prior examination.

Although the suspects were detained in June, it was only on 12 November that the 55-year-old admitted to an occurrence and to storing the victims. He denies any murderous intent, authorities stated.

Meanwhile, his brother acknowledged a attempt to hide evidence but denied involvement in a homicide.

The two suspects are currently in detention before court proceedings in prisons in Innsbruck and Salzburg, approximately 189 kilometers away from each other.

Via a shared communication, Austria's Minister for Women and the top legal representative said the "suspected killing of two... constitutes the sudden and brutal end of two human lives and reveals a brutal scheme".

"Women and girls are falling victim to homicide due to the mere fact that they are of the female gender," they continued.

"Femicides are a strongly established and society-wide problem that we must address decisively."
