Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's expected for concerns to be asked about his position after another convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.

Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in twelve games, representing the team's poorest streak since being demoted in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got a lot of support from the top,” the coach remarked.

“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory naturally but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it is normal that people question you.”

He noted, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”

Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot explained:

“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they back me.”

He added, “In the normal discussions I sense the belief. But I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so we'll see.”

Recurring Failings and Squad Reaction

Slot expressed regret over familiar shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder remarked.

“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”

He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a period such as this with results so bad.”

He concluded, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until it is gone, we'll continue to battle.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad return to the top, demonstrate to all again what this club is about and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”

“But right now, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
