The Blue Jays Secure World Series Matchup Versus the Dodgers
The outfielder was instrumental for the Houston Astros winning the World Series in the 2017 season.
The Toronto Blue Jays reached their initial World Series after the 1993 season by defeating the Mariners in the final game seven of the AL Championship Series.
Behind 3-1, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh inning, guiding the Toronto squad in the majors to a 4-3 victory in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, holders of the reigning title, in the upcoming World Series.
"I'm just so happy for our team, the city, Canada," Springer stated, a star of the Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."
Springer has now connected for 23 total post-season home runs, ranking him third all-time behind Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).
"I can't think of another person on planet Earth that I'd choose in that spot except for George Springer with his playoff prowess," remarked manager John Schneider.
Seattle, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the sole team never to appear in a Fall Classic.
Manager Dan Wilson said "there's no question that it's painful" following his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their efforts in the campaign.
"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we finished on the wrong side of the series," he added.
Toronto claimed the title on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and will host the Dodgers in the opener on the upcoming Friday.
