The Hit Drama Announced for Seventh Season on the British Broadcaster
The beloved crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh season, announced by the BBC.
A brand new six-part season written by the show's creator starts production in Belfast this spring, according to the production team.
The actress expressed excitement about the return, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."
The last season concluded in recent years with a finale that attracted over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been widespread for some time, but confirmation only came this week.
New Challenges for The Team
The seventh season will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain working to tackle corruption within the police force.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for busts of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to become a sexual predator.
However, his case could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the shadows, plot details hinted.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had countless fans watch the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a new installment."
He added: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor described being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.
Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is back! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be working together next year."
"Delighted with the news and anticipating those unexpected plot developments."
Series Legacy
The drama launched in 2012 and became one of the most popular television series of the last decade, featuring guest stars such as Lennie James.
Broadcasters has not yet announced exactly the new season will premiere.
The conclusion of series six drew the extended plot about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a conclusion, and producers indicated at the time there were no intentions for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the network confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now in development.
